for war

i had a cousin in the navy
a brother-in-law in the navy
i had a grandfather at dunkirk
you have to respect the work
you have to respect the calling
even if you find the war appalling

the idea of blood hungry soldiers rings untrue
people feel it is something you have to do
to represent your country oversees
thinking about the people an action frees
hoping to make the world a better place
something that’s marked the progress of the human race

i had people in the towers
i had people on the jubilee line
i have thought about it for hours
a viewpoint i’m always looking to refine
war, what is it good for?
you have to agree, but people are the flaw
and whether at home or on a foreign shore
there seems to be a demand for sacrifice for war
