that sadder tongue

this ladder’s rung
this sadder tongue
this line that’s strung
to other from one
and wrapped back around
to bring to ground
the sounding, the sound
the pavements we pound
salesmen for an apocalypse
anger spit from hotter lips
that say the sun went down
that say the sun won’t rise
using muscles to frown
muscles to close the eyes
and all behind a driving force
that believes itself the primary source
of all that is and all to come
and stands there pounding on the drum
and says the world shall be tired
because it has failed to be inspired
by the morning it woke into
by the hearts that it spoke sin to
by the world it chose to break
so that it could walk away
we persuade that sadder tongue to take a break
and come back to cast its vote another day
