time has things barnacled on
things that drain away the day
you make commitments
you wear anchors
you embrace standstills
looking for downhills
to save you some energy
avoiding climbs
these are time destroying times
these are no the youthful climes
where we shrugged at clocks
saw no locks or blocks
and ran the hallways into trouble
climbed over all the objection’s rubble
and claimed forever would reign, the bubble
now we wish each moment to double
each day to last a little longer
each bond to be a little stronger
but those things remain the same
they are the rules of the game
wildernesses hard to tame
and one you wouldn’t want destroyed
because they are also employed
to make things interesting
